Hi! It's Jilly. There's a Christmas cookie and white elephant gift exchange at church tomorrow night, so I decided to make my Grandma's Peanut Butter Criss Cross Cookies.

My Grandma lived with us off and on throughout my childhood. Before she passed away she gave me copies of some of her favorite recipes.

It was so awesome to read a recipe written in her handwriting, and then make cookies with my kids that I remember making with her!

I ran to Price Chopper and picked up the ingredients I was lacking to make the cookies. Her recipe specifically said to use Jif peanut butter, so I had to grab some!

When I got home we gathered together the ingredients and got to work.

Peanut Butter Criss Cross Cookies
Ingredients:
3/4 C Jif Peanut Butter
1 tsp vanilla
1/2 C Butter Crisco
3 Tb milk
1 egg
1 1/4 C firmly packed lt. brown sugar
1 3/4 C flour
3/4 tsp salt
3/4 tsp baking soda

Directions:
1) Preheat oven to 375 degrees F.
2) Combine Jif, Crisco, sugar, milk, and vanilla in large bowl. Beat at medium speed with an electric mixer until well blended.
3) Add egg. Beat until blended.

I always make the kids break the eggs into a separate bowl first!
4) In separate bowl combine flour, salt, and soda. Add to creamed mixture at low speed. Mix just until blended.

5) Drop by heaping teaspoons 2" apart on ungreased cookie sheet. Flatten slightly with tines of a fork in criss cross pattern. Moisten tines of fork between each cookie. (That was my favorite part when I made these with my Grandma!)

6) Bake 7-8 minutes, or until set and just beginning to brown. Remove cookies to foil (or cooling rack) to cool completely. Makes 2-3 doz cookies.

I also picked up this cute little box at Price Chopper to put the cookies in. Nice and festive, don't you think?! It will also keep little hands out of the cookies until tomorrow!
