Last year I had a crockpot full of hot water and cocoa packets out on the table, but that was such a mess! So, I decided to make hot chocolate in the crockpot this time. I made this one from Mrs. Happy Homemaker a few years ago, and it's really good. But, it is super sweet and I wanted to be able to add "mix-ins", so I decided to tweak the recipe. I also got inspiration from Heidi's Recipes. I ended up changing so many things that I figured it warranted posting the 'new' recipe!
This hot chocolate turned out soooooo yummy! All my friends just raved about it and wanted the recipe. They thought it was a secret family recipe or something! I hope your family and friends enjoy it, too. :)
Delicious Crockpot Hot Chocolate
12 cups 2% milk
3 cups heavy whipping cream
1 14 oz can sweetened condensed milk
2 tsp vanilla
2-3 dashes cinnamon
1 bag semi-sweet chocolate chips
5 oz dark chocolate melting wafers/baking melts
1. Add all liquid ingredients to a large slow cooker and whisk together. Stir in chocolate chips and melts.
2. Cover and cook on low 2-3 hours, stirring occasionally (every 20-30 minutes, especially in the beginning).
3. After all the chocolate is melted and it looks like hot chocolate, turn the slow cooker down to 'warm'. Before serving, whisk or blend with an immersion blender. Serve it plain, or with marshmallows, candy canes, flavored coffee creamers, etc.
